Rizio Takes Second in 100-Meter Dash at Meet of Champions

Montville High School junior Julia Rizio finished second in the 100 meter dash Thursday at the State Track & Field Championships with a time of 12.12. She ran a wind aided 12.09 in the preliminaries, qualifying in second position for the finals.

Rizio also ran in the 200-meter dash placing 15th with a time of 25.42.

Senior Taylor Bernstein also competed in both the shot put and discus. Bernstein placed 14th in the discus with a throw of 160-feet 1-inch.

The meet was postponed due to severe weather in the middle of the seeded heat of the boys 3200-meter run. With less than two laps to go in the race lightning in the area forced officials to stop the race and eventually postpone the meet.

The meet is scheduled to resume Monday, June 13 at 6pm at Old Bridge's Lombardi Field. Events to be completed include the boys and girls 3200, and 4x400 relays, boys shot put, boys long jump, girls triple jump, and girls javelin.

Taylor Bernstein will be returning to complete his throws in the shot put.
