2 Catalytic Converters Stolen, 1 Theft Thwarted In Mount Laurel: PD
One person was able to chase off the attempted thieves Monday, but two other people reported catalytic converters stolen in Mount Laurel.
MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — Two people reported having catalytic converters stolen this week and another stopped attempted thieves in Mount Laurel, police said.
The Mount Laurel Police Department is investigating after two people called police Tuesday, Jan. 10 and reported that the catalytic converter had been stolen out of their vehicles. Another person confronted two suspects on Monday, when police found several tools, officers said.
The first victim reported a theft in the 4100 block of Church Road, police said. They told police they had parked a vehicle on Jan. 9 at 6 p.m. and returned on the 10th at 7:40 a.m.

"The victim started the vehicle and heard a loud noise that was later diagnosed to be the catalytic converter stolen," police said. "Toyota informed the victim the cost would be approximately $2,500."
Also on Tuesday, someone called officers to the Extended Stay at 500 Diemer Drive, to report a stolen catalytic converter. The victim had left their vehicle at 6 p.m. on Jan. 9 and discovered the theft at 7:30 a.m. the next day.

"The damage is estimated to be approximately $1,000," police said. "A saw blade was located under the vehicle and placed into evidence."
The attempted theft happened Monday in the 3800 block of Church Road, according to the MLPD. The caller heard "what sounded like power tools" and saw two people dressed in dark clothing underneath a business vehicle.
"The victim confronted the suspects who took off running towards Lifetime Fitness," police said. "The suspects left behind a hacksaw."
Detectives arrived to process the scene, and officers later found a "suspicious package" nearby with saw blades, a battery, a head lamp, and some clothing.
