Abrakadoodle Combines Education with Entertainment

Abrakadoodle programs allow children to expand their imagination and learn about art through fun classes.

Children love art. From the time they’re old enough to get their hands on finger-paint and leave a mural of farm animals all over the living-room wall, kids are always trying to find ways to expand their creative imagination. Abrakadoodle offers the perfect environment for children to explore their own creativity, develop new skills and learn about artists and artistic styles.

Abrakadoodle is a national arts education program catering to children from 20 months to 12 years old. They offer art classes, art camps and art parties that are hosted at local schools and other convenient community locations.

This spring, Abrakadoodle will be holding its programs beginning in May at and elementary schools. There will also be summer programs at the

“The Abrakadoodle classes always focus on an artist or technique,” said Donna Link, director and owner of Abrakadoodle of Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. “We also mix it up with different projects. The teacher comes in with a sample of an artist’s work and their own work. They also bring in different props to show texture. For one project, called Cave Art, the kids got to play with a product called Texture It from Crayola. It made them feel like they were painting on a cave or on a rocky sculpture.”

Each class that Abrakadoodle offers is small in size and provides an enriching environment for the children. The art classes are designed for children of all artistic abilities and many of the students find a new interest in exploring their own creativity.

Abrakadoodle’s toddler art classes allow the parents to work directly with their kids. The students learn about color and texture, and experiment with new and innovative materials. In the Digital Doodles class, students learn about digital photography, photo printing and how to create their own set-up for photographing.

Besides enriching a child’s creativity, Abrakadoodle also teaches them how to think and create individually.

“Abrakadoodle offers kids an environment where they can experiment with different materials and be creative and innovative on their own,” said Link. “We are a process focused program and not product focused. We want the children to create their own thing and not make art that looks like ours.”

According to Link, Abrakadoodle also teaches students about school readiness.

“We ask the kids to be mindful of each other and to be quiet and raise their hands,” said Link. “This sets the stage for a real school setting and helps them with social value.”

All of Abrakadoodle’s teachers are either licensed to teach or have a history of art. Some of the instructors are even retired art educators who want to continue teaching and have a great love for kids.
