'Deadbeat' Sweep Snared 48 in Burlington County

Burlington County's sheriff worked with local police departments to bring in 48 people accused of skipping child support payments.

Local police and the Burlington County Sheriff's Department rounded up 48 people now charged in a so-called “deadbeat parents” sweep last week.

When totaled, the people arrested had failed to pay $997,324.27 in court-ordered child support, Burlington County Sheriff Jean E. Stanfield.

“This has been the most successful raid so far,’’ Stanfield said.

The sweep spanned three days; 10 of those arrested remain in the county jail.
