BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — Federal officials are looking for Nazeer Hameed after the murder of a mother and her son at a South Jersey apartment in 2017.

On May 13, the FBI issued a federal arrest warrant for Hameed, 39, after he was charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

He is also facing previous charges of two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

A state warrant for his arrest was issued in February 2025.

For several years, logistical challenges in getting a DNA sample from Hameed after he fled to India delayed prosecutors from filing charges.

On March 23, 2017, a woman and her 6-year-old boy were killed in their apartment in Maple Shade.

Sasikala Narra, 38, and her son, Anish, were found dead with multiple slash wounds to their necks, prosecutors said.

Anish was nearly decapitated, and the post-mortem examination showed defensive wounds on both victims' bodies.

Hameed lived in the same apartment complex, and both he and Sasikala had worked for Cognizant Technology Solutions — a Philadelphia-based consulting firm.

The motive for the attack is still unclear.

Hameed has black hair, brown eyes, and is believed to still be in India.

He should be considered armed and dangerous, federal officials added.

A reward of up to $50,000 is available, according to the FBI, for information that leads to the arrest and/or conviction of Hameed.

Anyone with information is asked to contact your local FBI office, the closest American Embassy or Consulate, or you can submit to tips.fbi.gov.

According to officials, anonymous information can also be delivered here.
