MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — A 44-year-old man was charged after he pretended to be a mortgage firm and duped a man out of $300,000, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said.
Stephen Intrieri, of Mount Laurel, was charged with theft by unlawful taking and impersonation.
In October 2025, a Jackson Township man took out a Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) against his property for $300,000.
He intended to give some of the money to Intrieri in order to put into other ventures.
Intrieri, however, submitted a loan application in the man's name and used his own contact information as the only one who could access the HELOC.
He also moved the money into an E-Trade account that the man was not able to get into.
Throughout the operation, Intrieri was also talking to the man and pretending to be the mortgage company.
His name has been entered into the National Crime Information Center database.
Anyone with information on this case or who believes they may have another similar situation that unfolded is asked to contact (732) 929-2027 (opt. 3224).
