Men Go To Woman's Home, Pretend To Be Bank Employees In South Jersey: Authorities

RIVERSIDE, NJ — Two men were arrested after they went to a woman's home to collect thousands of dollars after posing as bank security, the Riverside Township Police Department said.

MD N. Islam, 48, of Egg Harbor Township, and Mohammad Z. Islam, 58, of Westville, were charged with theft by deception and released on summonses.

Over the last few days, a woman reported to Riverside Township Police that she was scammed out of $25,000.

She told officials that a pop up window on her computer said there was a virus and listed a phone number to call.

When she called, a man said he was part of the Wells Fargo Bank security team and that she caused a virus on their network.

The woman was told that in order for the FBI to not get involved, she must take out $25,000 in cash, bring it to her home, and put it in a box for Wells Fargo agents to pick up.

A man then went to her home and took the money.

He called her shortly thereafter and said she needs to take out another $30,000 to also be picked up in the same way.

The woman then called the Riverside Police Department to report the scam.

Detectives helped her talk with the man as she had been doing to follow their instructions.

Two men went to her house to pick up more cash and were met with police waiting to arrest them.

According to officials, anonymous submissions can be sent through a message to 847411 that says "riversidepd" along with the information, through the Tip 411 link on the Riverside Township Police Department's Facebook page, or through the Department's website.
