Thousands Without Power As Storms Batter South Jersey

"Ping pong size" hail was listed as a possibility by the National Weather Service.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — As heavy rains continue to pour down on the Garden State Thursday, thousands of people are being left in the dark.

As of 2 p.m., Atlantic City Electric was reporting 2,816 customers without service throughout Gloucester County.

Power is estimated to be restored by 1 a.m. on Friday.

According to Public Service Electric & Gas, 2,274 accounts within Burlington County were also without power.

The estimated restoration time is listed for 8:30 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch was issued until 8 p.m. on Thursday, with "ping pong size" hail possible.

The chance for tornadoes is also a factor, the National Weather Service said.
