Committee Asks Council To Fix Up Flower Beds In Moorestown

2 members of the appearance committee spoke to council about the state of the landscaping in the township Monday night.

Moorestown, NJ -- Two members of the appearance committee went before Moorestown Council Monday night to express concern about the flower beds in the township.

There are 87 flower beds in the township, and the committee visited all of them, Vice Chair Gena Zegel and Appearance Committee Member Walter Steve Chepurny told council. Of these beds, 70 are empty or nearly empty.

In addition to the planting that needs to take place in these beds, the committee identified seven planted areas in need of remediation on Main Street.

A streetscaping project on Main Street took place in 1996, but it has deteriorated since. In addition, there was a town wide repaving that took place after this, but when they repainted the yellow lines in the parking lot after that project, they didn’t go exactly where they were to begin with.

As a result, cars are parking closer to the flower beds than they were previously, and people are banging their doors on the beds, and in some cases, tripping over them.

The committee is also asking for the planting of trees, curbside maintenance three times a year in addition to any cleanup needed for town events, and the application of some weed killer.

The total cost of the project would be between $14,203.95 and $23,503.95, depending on how much of the project would be approved by council.
