Criminal Court Filings Decreased in Moorestown in 2015

The total number of court filings increased by 23 percent.

Moorestown, NJ -- Criminal activity recorded in court filings in Moorestown dropped by 32 percent from 2014 to 2015, according to a report released by the New Jersey State Department of Justice.

However, there was an increase of 42 percent when it came to traffic violations, meaning the total number of court filings in the township increased by 23 percent.

The biggest decrease was in disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses, which fell by 47 percent, from 258 from July to December of 2014 to 136 over that same period in 2015.

There was a 19 percent decrease in crimes worthy of an indictment, from 166 to 134, but an increase of 68 percent in the “other criminal” category. This consists of municipal and county ordinance violations, weights and measures offenses, fish and game violations, and penalty enforcement actions such as non-payment of fines or failure to appear. The number of these incidents increased from 19 to 32.

The increase in moving violations was just as large as the decrease in disorderly and petty disorderly persons offenses. There was an increase of 47 percent in moving violations, from 1,190 to 1,754.

There was a 22 percent increase in DWI, but that number went from 9 to 11. There was a 9 percent decrease in parking tickets, a drop of 134 in 2014 to 122 in 2015.
