David Hess, Debbie Browning Hess Are Citizens Of The Year

They run a longstanding farm in Moorestown and are active members of the community.

MOORESTOWN, NJ - The owners of a longstanding Moorestown farm have been named the township’s co-citizens of the year by Moorestown’s Service Club Council.

Debbie Browning Hess and David Hess run the Browning-Hess Farm, which was initially established in 1898.

Their generous intentions to preserve land and farming tradition in Moorestown, along with the Burlington County Farm Preservation program, has helped to preserve the farm.

Through the farm, they offer generous donations of food for the needy (with Live Civilly, Code Blue, Camden shelters, WIC, direct to families etc.), flowers, (annual donation to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial for Memorial Day, Flower Baskets for Main Street etc.) hay bales and pumpkins for town events, services such as hay rides for dementia patients and persons of special needs, and much more.

They are also active members of the community. They were active volunteers throughout their children’s upbringing supporting various school programs, Indian Guides, coaching recreational sports teams and both served on ad hoc advisory community committees.

David Hess served on committees at the First United Church of Moorestown and as a board member of the Family Y of Burlington County. Debbie Browning Hess served as a member of the Farming Women’s Auxiliary for our region.

Debbie Browning Hess is the longest standing member of the Moorestown Open Space Advisory Committee and a generous donor/volunteer to Alzheimer’s charities with David Hess. David Hess is also one of the founding members of Sustainable Moorestown and has helped write grants that have resulted in funding for the township. They both attend most township council meetings.

The Moorestown Citizen of the Year Dinner will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, at the Moorestown Community House, 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Moorestown Community House or by contacting the Rotary Lunch and Breakfast clubs, or The Lions Club. Tickets are $55 each, and tables can be purchased.
