We Think This Burlington County Story Qualifies As Puppy Love. Read The Amazing Story:

WESTAMPTON, NJ - A dog found in Burlington County on the New Jersey Turnpike has found his “forever home,” an official said.

The 2 1/2-year-old reddish-brown dog was running loose on the highway last December. A few drivers stopped to help and were able to coax the scared dog out from one of the stopped cars, a press release said.

One of those drivers named him Clifford, after the canine featured in the book series titled “Clifford the Big Red Dog,” according to the press release.

Clifford was taken to the Burlington County Animal Shelter on Academy Road and ultimately adopted by Lisa Yochim of Absecon. Yochim had become “smitten” with the dog after seeing reports of his story and visiting with him, officials said.

Burlington County Commissioner Felicia Hopson said she was delighted to hear Clifford was adopted.

“Our entire Board was overjoyed to learn that Clifford was getting a new forever home following his harrowing adventure on the turnpike,” Hopson said in the press release.

She hoped Clifford’s story encouraged others to consider pet adoption.

“Clifford’s story has a fantastic ending, but we want more of the same for all the dogs and cats in the shelter, so we’re asking residents to go online or visit the shelter soon. There are plenty of lovable dogs and cats just waiting to meet you,” Hopson said.

The dogs and cats available for adoption at the Burlington County Animal Shelter can be seen by visiting the Burlington County Animal Shelter's website. From now until the end of March, the shelter has reduced its adoption fee for pit bulls and pit bull mixes from $75 to $25, the press release said.

Potential adopters are encouraged to call the shelter at 609-265-5073 to make an appointment, according to the press release.
