DELRAN, NJ — A woman is suing Dunkin’ Donuts, claiming a better-designed cup holder could have prevented the injuries she sustained during a 2021 visit to the doughnut chain's Delran location, according to a lawsuit filed in Superior Court.

Samantha Picklo reportedly suffered second- and third-degree burns on her body when three coffees inside a cardboard drink holder being passed to her spilled onto her lap, the lawsuit said.

The August incident caused Picklo to partially drive onto U.S. Route 130, jump out of her car and take her pants off, the lawsuit said. In addition, Picklo "was on her hands and knees on the driver's side of the vehicle, begging for someone to give her medication for the pain she was in," the lawsuit added.

The incident caused Picklo "pain and suffering" and has "prevented from pursuing her usual activities and has permanent disabilities and disfigurement," according to the lawsuit.

Dunkin’ Donuts, who was accused in the lawsuit of not "adequately" training its employees on how to handle these cardboard drink holders, denies the claims, according to nj.com.

Three other Garden State residents besides Picklo have separately filed lawsuits against coffee giant Dunkin' Donuts. These other New Jersey lawsuits claim its hot coffee causes burns when spilled and storefronts are too hazardous.
