NJ Earthquake Caused No Significant Damage In Burlington Co.

Despite an influx of 911 calls, no injuries were reported.

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — No injuries have been reported in Burlington County as a result of a 4.8-magnitude earthquake that shoot the region Friday morning.

The county's Central Communications office, which handles emergency dispatch, received more than 200 calls within 15 minutes after the earthquake. But nearly all were non-emergency inquiries asking about what had just happened or whether there was an earthquake, according to a county spokesperson.

The county government advised the public to only contact 911 "with emergency situations."

All county buildings have been surveyed, and no significant damage was found. The county government's offices are open and operating normally.

The earthquake was recorded at 10:23 a.m. near Califon, Hunterdon County, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. Its impact was felt throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
