Eight Candidates to Seek Spot on Moorestown BOE

The candidates, including only one incumbent, will vie for three open seats.

Eight Moorestonians have filed petitions to run for three open seats on the school board this fall, including just one incumbent. 

Board Member David Weinstein will seek reelection to his board seat. However, fellow board members William Van Fossen III and Linda Alexandroff did not file petitions to seek re-election, according to information supplied by the Burlington County Clerk's office.

Along with Weinstein, the following individuals will also seek a seat on the board:

Nineteen-year-old Pugh, who graduated from last year, .

“This is really my way to give back to the school district,” he said in January. “I really think it is—not just cause I live in Moorestown and I’m a graduate—but I really think it is one of the best … (I want) to ensure what I enjoyed in the town, in the schools, can be continued for students to come.”

The candidates are technically "unofficial" until their petitions have been verified. 

Township council in February after legislation was passed allowing school districts—as well as the municipalities in which they're situated—to move their elections to the fall general election, and also remove the school budget from the ballot. 

Roughly 80 percent of school districts statewide chose to move their elections to the fall, including nearly all of the districts in Burlington County. Keeping the election in April would have increased the financial burden on Moorestown School District, officials said, so the decision was made to move it. 

Board terms are three years.
