Evergreens Employees Earn Grants For Nursing Education

Shakira Davis and David Paul, who both work at the facility in Moorestown, will put the grants toward an education at RCBC.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Two staff members of The Evergreens, a Continuing Care Retirement Community in Moorestown, will receive grants offered to exceptional employees looking to further their education in healthcare, The Evergreens announced this week.

Shakira Davis, of Camden, was awarded The Evergreens Charles Edward Cost Memorial Healthcare Education Grant for $2,000. David Paul, of Burlington, was awarded and The Evergreens Scott Coffee Memorial Healthcare Education Grant for $500. The grants are made possible through endowed funds and various donors to the respective funds.

“We are so pleased to see two of our best and brightest staff members receive these education grants,” The Evergreens President and CEO Doug Halvorsen said.. “It’s wonderful to see them grow their knowledge in nursing so they can continue to provide high-quality healthcare.”

Davis is currently a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) at The Evergreens, where she has worked for 12 years. Using her grant, she plans to apply to the nursing program at Rowan College of Burlington County and continue her studies. She would someday like to work as a travelling nurse, possibly on a cruise ship so she could provide care to patients while seeing the world.

Davis is a CNA at The Evergreens, where he was worked for eight years. Using his grant, he plans to attend Rowan College of Burlington County full time. He would ultimately like to work as a nurse-practitioner in hospice/palliative care. They both praised The Evergreens for inspiring their career choices.

“I love it here; that’s why I’ve worked here for more than 10 years,” Davis said. “It’s very intimate environment. The Evergreens is a family.”
