Former Moorestown Police Director Loyd Barrentine Passes
Services for Loyd Barrentine will take place on Thursday

MOORESTOWN, NJ - Loyd Barrentine, of Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, formerly of Moorestown, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2019, at the age of 89.
Beloved husband of Bonnie (nee Cahill). Devoted father of Judy Jordan (Mt. Laurel), Kathy McKinley and husband Gary (Mineola, Texas), and Jim Barrentine and wife Lori Torrini (Yoder, Colorado). He is survived by brother, Wayne Barrentine and sister, Beverly Crow, both of New Mexico. Loyd was the loving grandfather of 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Loyd was born in 1929 in Cleveland, Mississippi, and moved to California in his teens. Upon high school graduation in 1947, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in “MacArthur’s Guard” under General Mathew Ridgeway.

After leaving the service for a brief period in law enforcement, in Inglewood, California, Loyd re-entered the Army as an officer in the Military Police retiring as Major, U.S. Army.
In 1971, he became Director of Police for the City of Moorestown, New Jersey and then became an Investigator for the Department of Defense. In retirement, Loyd was an active leader in community affairs and civic organizations in Moorestown and Mount Laurel.

He was a member of Lions Club International, Y’s Service Club of Moorestown, Military Officers Association of America (Joint Base McGuire-Dix Lakehurst) and Board Member for the Birchfield Community Homeowners Association.
Mass of Christian burial is 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 17, 2019, at St. John Neumann Church, 560 Walton Avenue, Mt Laurel, NJ 08054. Visitation is Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Lewis Funeral Home, 78 East Main Street, Moorestown, NJ. 08057.
