Fourth Positive Case Of Coronavirus Reported In Moorestown

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A fourth Moorestown resident has tested positive for new coronavirus, Burlington County officials announced Wednesday afternoon.

Additionally, county officials reported the first three deaths as a result of the virus in the county, all Mount Laurel residents in their 80s.

The new Moorestown case is that of a 52-year-old woman. She is the first woman in the township to test positive for the virus. On Tuesday, it was reported that two Moorestown men, ages 21 and 28, had tested positive for the virus. It was previously reported that a 43-year-old man had tested positive, and that a person who tested positive for coronavirus had attended the Moorestown High School Orchestra Concert on March 12.

An 87-year-old woman and two men, ages 80 and 85, are the first three Burlington County residents who have died after testing positive for the virus. No further information on these cases was provided on Wednesday.

The total number of people in New Jersey who have died after testing positive for the virus rose to 62 on Wednesday with the addition of 18 new cases. State officials only listed one Burlington County death in their 2 p.m. press conference, though.

The Moorestown woman was among 10 new cases of coronavirus announced on Wednesday by Burlington County officials, bringing the total number of cases countywide to 59. Trace investigations have begun in all new cases, which include:

• A 51-year-old Delran man;
• A 23-year-old Burlington Township man;
• A 40-year-old Delran man;
• A 42-year-old Burlington Township woman;
• A 50-year-old Southampton woman;
• A 50-year-old Mansfield man;
• A 71-year-old Lumberton woman;
• A 55-year-old Chesterfield woman; and
• A 46-year-old Bordentown man.

How It Spreads

The virus that causes COVID-19 is spreading from person-to-person. Someone who is actively sick with COVID-19 can spread the illness to others. That is why CDC recommends that these patients be isolated either in the hospital or at home (depending on how sick they are) until they are better and no longer pose a risk of infecting others.

There is currently no vaccine for COVID-19.

While the best way to prevent illness is to avoid virus exposure, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention always recommends taking preventive actions to contain the spread of viruses. This includes:

• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
• Stay home when you are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipes.
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom, before eating, after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
