Historical Society Brings a Piece of the Civil War to Moorestown High School

The Historical Society hosted a Civil War exhibit at the high school on Friday.

The Historical Society of Moorestown brought a piece of the Civil War to the high school on Friday.

Originally scheduled for Feb. 14, the exhibit was delayed two weeks due to inclement weather. The Historical Society’s timing was better the second time around, as it was able to get the display in on Friday.

Over 200 students visited the exhibit at Moorestown High School throughout the day, Historical Society President Lenny Wagner said.

The exhibit featured items belonging to Joseph Hugg, a navy surgeon from Moorestown, who served on the USS Hartford under the command of Admiral David Farragut.

Students also learned about the men from Moorestown who were part of Company E of the 4th Regiment of the First New Jersey Infantry, which fought in over 32 batles during the Civil War.
