Impaired NJ Driver Injures Officer Responding To Another DWI Crash: Police

The 2nd driver, who hit a police vehicle, has a suspended license, authorities said.

WESTAMPTON, NJ — An intoxicated driver with a suspended license struck a police vehicle, injuring the officer while he responded to a separate DWI crash in Burlington County, authorities said.

Westampton police were investigating the first crash at 11:31 p.m. Saturday on Rancocas Road, near School House Lane. As the officer waited for the suspect's vehicle to get towed, another driver rear-ended his patrol car, authorities said.

The officer was brought to the hospital to get his injuries treated.

Police identified the first driver as Donald Smith, of Mount Holly. He was charged with driving while intoxicated.

The second driver — Tameka Davis, of Mount Laurel — was criminally charged with assault by auto. She was also charged with DWI, reckless driving, unlicensed driving, driving with a suspended license, failing to yield to an emergency vehicle, and failure to maintain lane.

Davis was placed in the Burlington County Jail, with her first court date to be determined.
