Joe Biden Would Reunify Divided Country, Moorestown Resident Says

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown resident Monique Begg writes that as president, Joe Biden would reunify a United States that has become divided. Her letter to the editor can be found below.
In large numbers, people have been marching in the streets, protesting the death of George Floyd by chokehold while in police custody. Our country is in crisis. How does President Trump respond? By summoning the National Guard to help clear a crowd of protesters near the White House. Tear gas was used, so he could pose for a photo op, Bible held upside down. He also threatened to bring in U.S. active military forces to patrol our streets.
My 82-year-old baby sister called me. “You’re an activist,” she said. “You can’t let Trump serve a second term!” She urged me to work to ensure that, on November 3rd, Joe Biden becomes our 46th president.

I’m 88. What I can do is limited. Yet, I can’t remain silent while Donald Trump is violating our constitutional rights to freedom of speech and freedom to assemble and protest peaceably.
I’m not alone. U.S. retired military leaders Colin Powell, James Mattis and John Kelly are among the many prominent American citizens who have openly opposed Trump’s plan to use military force against protestors.

“He (Trump) has drifted away from the Constitution,” said Powell.
Mattis said that Trump “does not even pretend to try” to unify the nation. “Instead he tries to divide us.”
Said Kelly, “I think we should look at people that are running for office and put them through the filter: What is their character like? What are their ethics?”
Joe Biden is a compassionate, moderate Democrat with years of experience in getting things done by working with both sides of the aisle. If elected, he would work to reunify our divided country. Said Powell, “He will make American better for all the people, not just for the rich.”
