NEW JERSEY — U.S. Representative Andy Kim (NJ-03) said he feared the ramifications of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Bob Healey, Kim's opponent for New Jersey's third Congressional District in the November election, saw things differently.

Kim said that he "never imagined today would come. A day when the rights of Americans are going backwards. The health and lives of many women are in jeopardy by this reckless decision that overturns half a century of precedent."

He also said Americans will feel the impact of this "dangerous change" almost immediately and also expressed concern about potential future decisions on birth control.

Kim added that "we passed legislation in the House that would stop this and the Senate must find a way to codify the rights of women and families to make their own decisions about their health."

Healey took a different point of view.

"Despite the scare tactics my opponent will promote, [the U.S. Supreme Court decision] changes nothing regarding New Jersey law," he said. "My position on this issue is clear and it is mainstream: I am personally pro-life, while believing that women should have the legal right to an abortion in cases of rape or incest, or if continuing to term could threaten the woman's life."

Healey also noted that Kim's "radical" opinions regarding abortion align with New Jersey Gov. Murphy.

Kim stands for "expanded access to late-term abortions, long after a baby is viable and could live a healthy life outside the womb and that 15-year-old girls seeking an abortion should not have to notify their parents first," Healey said. "Those are extreme positions and Andy Kim should have to explain why he holds them."
