Letter to the Editor: Brandon Thompson, Moorestown Fire Commissioner Candidate

To The Editor:

My name is Brandon Thompson and I am seeking a fire commissioner seat on the Moorestown Board of Fire Commissioners for First District Two.

As a lifetime resident of Moorestown, I have a deep passion for Moorestown and giving back to it. It would be my privilege to serve the residents of District Two, and I encourage everyone to vote on Feb. 20.

As way of introduction, I graduated from Moorestown High School in 2011, and I will be graduating from Rowan University in May after attending Rowan College at Burlington County (formerly BCC) to save money.

I currently serve as a member on the Open Space Advisory Committee for the Town Council, and I am a substitute teacher for Moorestown Township Public Schools. I have also held several roles in business management.

I am running for fire commissioner for several reasons.

First and foremost, I have a genuine desire to give back to the community and make it better for the residents.

Second, I would like to bring an outside and community voice to the Board of Fire Commissioners. I believe it is very important to have diverse representation and to ensure taxpayer is spent efficiently and wisely. Ensuring fiscal responsibility on the board would be a main priority, and to ensure all purchases are necessary and aid in public safety.

Third, I believe communication between the board and the community should be improved. For instance, I believe a monthly newsletter emailed to residents would be beneficial to keep residents informed of actions and to receive feedback as many residents cannot attend meetings regularly. This would be one step to help improve transparency and have the voices of the residents heard.
