Lockheed Martin Gets Additional $8.4 Million For LRDR Project

Work on the defense contract is being carried out in Moorestown.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — Lockheed Martin has received an additional $8.4 million for their missile defense contract that will be carried out in Moorestown bringing the total contract to $695 million, Rep. Tom MacArthur (R-3) announced on Tuesday.

Lockheed Martin’s contract provides options to develop, deploy, test, and operate a Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR). The LRDR combines radar, ballistic missile defense algorithms, and combat systems to support homeland defense.

“This is great news for the Moorestown community and for all of South Jersey,” MacArthur said. “As we face evolving threats from around the world, a strong missile defense is vital to defending our homeland and protecting our troops serving abroad. Security must come first and it’s great for South Jersey to be leading the way.”

The Missile Defense Agency (MDA) initially awarded the contract to Lockheed Martin for the project in 2015, according to the defense company’s website. The company is on schedule to deliver the radar to Clear, Alaska in 2020.

LRDR provides constant acquisition, tracking and discrimination data to enable defense systems to lock on and engage ballistic missile threats, a capability that stems from Lockheed Martin's decades of experience in creating ballistic missile defense systems for the U.S. and allied governments.
