A five-star rating indicates that Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County’s clinical outcomes are statistically significantly better than expected.

“Clinical quality varies significantly between hospitals, so it’s important for consumers to use information about outcomes to assess where to receive care,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Healthgrades. “A 5-star rating for heart failure, heart attack, COPD, and diabetic emergencies, showcases the expertise and commitment of Lourdes Burlington to their patients.”

Building on the success of previous Healthgrades awards, Lourdes Burlington’s Heart Failure team designed a comprehensive educational program for its nursing and ancillary staff called “Rise Above Heart Failure.”

“With the collaboration of physician and nursing leadership, we implemented a heart failure education and training program as a way to further elevate our care management at Lourdes,” said Theresa Rowe, MSN, CRNP, director of Heart Failure Services at Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County. “Our ultimate goal continues to be helping heart failure patients learn self-care techniques, recognizing early signs and symptoms, and properly following-up to prevent readmissions for heart failure.

“Combining our Healthgrades award with our team’s commitment to continuous quality care, we aim to provide supreme heart care right here in South Jersey.”

*For its analysis, Healthgrades evaluated approximately 45 million Medicare inpatient records for nearly 4,500 short-term acute care hospitals nationwide to assess hospital performance in 32 common conditions and procedures, and evaluate outcomes in appendectomy and bariatric surgery using all-payer data provided by 15 states. Healthgrades recognizes a hospital’s quality achievements for cohort-specific performance, specialty area performance, and overall clinical quality. Individual procedure or condition cohorts are designated as 5-star (statistically significantly better than expected), 3-star (not statistically different from expected) and 1-star (statistically significantly worse than expected) categories.
