Man Ejected, Killed In 3-Vehicle Crash In Burlington County: Police

The chain-reaction collision sent an overturned van into a tractor-trailer's path, authorities said.

MOUNT LAUREL, NJ — A three-vehicle crash ejected and killed a driver Thursday morning on Interstate 295 in Mount Laurel, officials said.

Police identified the decedent as Dennis Cox, 62, of Hamilton Square.

State Police responded to the crash at 8:12 a.m. Based on their preliminary investigation, Cox was traveling in the right lane on I-295 north. The left side of his Nissan van struck the right side of a Dodge pickup truck that was in the northbound center lane at milepost 42.6, according to Det. Jeffrey Lebron.

As a result, Cox's vehicle ran off the road to the left, overturned and crossed the center median, police said. Then, a Peterbilt tractor-trailer in the southbound center lane struck his vehicle, according to Lebron.

Cox was ejected and sustained fatal injuries during the collision sequence, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The collision and investigation prompted massive delays that morning for I-295 commuters.
