Mercer County Man Arrested In Burlington Woman's Fatal OD: Cops

The woman overdosed on fentanyl-laced heroin on Oct. 30, 2018, and died on Nov. 4 without ever regaining consciousness.

A Mercer County man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal overdose of a Burlington County woman he sold fentanyl-laced heroin to last year, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina and Burlington Township Public Safety Director Bruce Painter announced.

Daquan Marshall, 28, of Trenton, has been charged with one count of first-degree strict liability for a drug-induced death in the death of a 22-year-old Springfield woman.

Burlington Township police responded to a home on Central Avenue for a report of a possible overdose on Oct. 30, 2018, according to the prosecutor’s office. Upon arrival, officers found the woman in a bedroom with a hypodermic needle near her body, according to the prosecutor’s office.

She was taken to Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, where she died on Nov. 4 without ever having regained consciousness. An autopsy performed by Burlington County Medical Examiner Dr. Ian Hood determined that her death was due to fentanyl toxicity.

Marshall originally faced drug distribution charges, but the offense was upgraded after she died and investigators traced the drugs back to him.

He was arrested at his home on Wednesday morning by members of the Burlington County Sheriff’s Department Warrant Unit, Trenton Police, and the U.S. Marshal's Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force – Camden Division.

Marshall is scheduled for a first appearance today in Superior Court in Mount Holly. The case will then be prepared for presentation to a Burlington County Grand Jury for possible indictment.
