MOORESTOWN, NJ — Three Moorestown High School students that the Moorestown Rotary Breakfast Club sponsored for the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA) visited the club last week.
Seniors Emily Tsai and John Borton, and junior Diprodev Ray attended a four-day conference that is held each year at Monmouth College at the end of the school year, according to the club.
“I did not know what to expect, but I will remember what I learned and the people I met for the rest of my life,” Ray said.

“It started off slow, but it was anything but slow,” Tsai said. “We worked day and night on team building. I made many new friends.”
“I realized that there were 180 people that are leaders, but they learned that working together is where the strength is,” Borton said.

The students must fill out an application, demonstrate positions currently or previously held that show actual or potential leadership skills. Those who participate connect with leaders in their community and around the world to:
- Build communication and problem-solving skills
- Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in your school or community
- Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
- Unlock your potential to turn motivation into action
- Have fun and form lasting friendships
RYLA events are organized locally by Rotary clubs and districts for participants ages 14-30. Depending on community needs, RYLA may take the form of a one-day seminar, a three-day retreat, or a weeklong camp. Typically, events last 3-10 days and include presentations, activities, and workshops covering a variety of topics.
The RYLA event for high school students helps them to hone their leadership potential, to develop creative problem-solving strategies, and learn ethical business practices. The Moorestown Breakfast Rotary Club has sponsored over 100 students in their 32 year history to develop future leaders.
