Missing Burlington County Man's Body Found In Outer Banks: Police

A 34-year-old South Jersey man died after jumping off a rented boat and went missing in the Outer Banks on Labor Day, according to police.

Sundara Baskar Pooraswamy-Chinna, of Maple Shade, jumped off the rented boat to go swimming at about 12:30 p.m. Monday, according to the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.

When he began to struggle, his friends threw him a life jacket, according to Sgt. Jonathan Beardsley. He then fell below the water’s surface.

Police searched for Pooraswamy-Chinna for the next two days, Beardsley said. Police were eventually able to find him using a side scan sonar deveice around 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Beardsley said. His body was found in 8 feet of water near the last place he was seen, police said.

After an initial examination of the body, police said that no foul play was suspected. Pooraswamy-Chinna was an Indian national who was working at an IT company in Maple Shade, police said.
