Moorestown 4th of July Parade Set for Saturday

Those marching in the parade should arrive by 11:30 a.m. The parade begins at noon.

Saturday’s Freedom Festival has been canceled, but the annual Fourth of July Parade will go on as planned, Moorestown Fourth of July Parade Chairman Dave Schill said this week.

The theme for this year’s parade is “American Icons.”

Those marching in the parade should arrive at Chester and Central avenues by 11:30 a.m. The parade begins at noon.

The parade will march up Chester to East Main Street, turn right and go through the downtown, to Church and Main streets. It will turn right on Church go back to Central, turn right and return to the beginning.

The winners of this year’s Freedom Poster contest held in the Moorestown School District will ride on a float in this year’s parade. They will be joined by the winners of last year’s contest, who had no parade to ride in when last year’s parade was canceled due to rain.

Several bands will march in this year’s parade, including the U.S. Army Band and the Polish American String Band.

The inaugural Freedom Fest was to be held following this year’s parade, but it didn’t pan out, according to Schill. He said to look for it next year.

The Moorestown Fourth of July Parade Committee achieved 501(c)(3) status this year, based on the educational component of its activities. This includes the 2015 Freedom Lecture, which was held on June 4 at the library, and was sold out, Schill said.

The committee relies on donations from the public to help pay for the parade. This year’s parade is paid for, but it will need help to fund future parades.
