Moorestown Board Of Education President Announces Resignation

Kathy Goldenberg has been confirmed to serve on the State Board of Education, which prohibits her from serving locally.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Public School District’s Board of Education is now accepting applications to fill a vacancy that was created on its board when Board President Kathy Goldenberg announced her resignation Tuesday night.

Goldenberg resigned after she was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate to serve on the State Board of Education on June 19, the district announced on Thursday. The state position doesn’t allow for service on local boards.

“It comes with a heavy heart however, since I sincerely enjoy working with our Board, Superintendent, Administrators, Faculty and Community,” Goldenberg said in announcing her resignation. “We have, in my opinion, one of the greatest school districts within the state.”

Vice President Brandon Pugh is serving as Acting President until the Board holds a special election to fill the seat permanently.

“While we are very sad to see Kathy leave the Board, we know that she will take the same passion and dedication she brought to Moorestown to the State Board of Education to advocate on behalf of all students across New Jersey,” Pugh said. “Kathy’s commitment to public education and to Moorestown is unparalleled, and we cannot thank her enough for her tireless work and for the positive impact she made on the District, Board, and community. The entire Board wishes Kathy the best as she moves onto a new challenge and opportunity.”

Goldenberg served on the Moorestown Board of Education since April of 2007. Her service included time as President, Vice President, and the chair of multiple committees. Goldenberg has also been active outside of the school district with the Moorestown Breakfast Rotary Club, the Garden State Coalition of Schools, the Moorestown Home and School Association, the New Jersey School Board Association and the New Jersey School Intramural Athletic Association, among many other organizations.

The Board will be accepting applications and will interview to fill the vacancy through reorganization 2018. Official information on that process will be released soon at www.mtps.com.
