Moorestown BOE Elects New President, Selects New Board Member
Both decisions were made during a special meeting last week, according to the Moorestown Sun.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Public School District Board of Education elected a new board president and nominated a new board member during a special meeting on Thursday night, July 20. Both were necessary after Kathy Goldenberg resigned last month after she was confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate to serve on the State Board of Education. The state position doesn’t allow for service on local boards.
Sandra Alberti was elected to serve as the Board President following a 6-2 vote, the Moorestown Sun reports. Alberti was the only nominee. Vice President Brandon Pugh and Board Member Peter Palko provided the dissenting votes, with some voicing support for Pugh to assume the position.
Pugh had been serving as the Acting President. After the vote, he praised Alberti’s background in education, but said he voted no because she has only been on the board for one year, according to the report.

Mark Villanueva, a Moorestown resident on and off for the last 40 years, was nominated to fill the vacant seat, according to the report. He has two children in the district, and that number will soon increase to four.
Goldenberg served on the Moorestown Board of Education since April of 2007. Her service included time as President, Vice President, and the chair of multiple committees. She resigned on June 19.
