Moorestown BOE Tackles Reorganization, Superintendent Search
Brandon J. Pugh discusses these topics and more in his monthly column.

It is hard to believe that January is already almost done, but the Moorestown Board of Education and the School District got off to a productive start by welcoming a new board member and Board Vice President, approving a superintendent search consultant, and appointing an Interim Director of Curriculum and Instruction, among other actions.
The board held its yearly reorganization meeting on Jan. 5. At this meeting, Harry Faunce, David Weinstein and I were sworn-in for three year terms (2016-2019).
Each year, the board votes on its leadership, and I am happy to say that Kathy Goldenberg was re-elected President of the Board. I was elected Vice-President. I truly appreciate the support of the Board for this honor, and I am excited to continue my active involvement.

The board announced several changes to its committees and board member liaisons, which included removing the Technology Committee, instead blending it with multiple committees, and adding a Curriculum and Development Committee.
A full list of committees and liaisons, along with their descriptions can be found here. Please note that starting in February, committees will no longer give updates at public meetings, but they will share written meeting summaries on the district website.

At the regularly monthly meeting on Jan. 19, the board approved a contract with New Jersey Association of School Administrators (NJASA) to provide superintendent search services for the district.
Currently, Carole Butler is serving as the District’s Interim Superintendent, and was approved by the board to serve from December 1, 2015 to July 1, 2016.
Since Ms. Butler was Director of Curriculum and Instruction prior to her current role, Dr. Susan Tosti was appointed on an interim basis to fill that position.
The district continued the monthly curriculum presentations at the January meeting.
Ms. Roseth Rodriguez, Supervisor of Social Sciences and World Languages presented curricular enhancements made, future goals, and recent student achievement, including outstanding scores on various foreign language tests by students.
Next month Ms. Patricia Rowe, Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts, will present.
Be sure to save the date for the Partnership for Acceleration, Challenge, and Enrichment’s (PACE) 2016 Science Fair, open to all students in grades K-12.
The Science Night/Fair Kick-Off will be on Feb. 9, from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. in the UES Cafeteria, which features hands-on demonstrations and project ideas.
The Science Fair will be on March 22 from 6:30 p.m.-8 pm in the UES Cafeteria.
Volunteers are needed to help, including scientists, engineers, and others with science backgrounds. To volunteer, contact Alisa Modena at abmodena@aol.com.
The next regular Board of Education meeting will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at 7:30 p.m., in the William Allen Middle School media center.
As always, do not hesitate to reach out to the Board or myself if you have any questions or need anything. I would be delighted to hear from you, and I hope to see you at a future meeting.
