Moorestown Council Approves New Guidelines For Certain Public Works Employees

A situation that was up in the air since 2012 saw a final resolution Monday night.

Moorestown, NJ -- Moorestown Council unanimously approved a proposed ordinance that sets salaries and compensation for certain Public Works employees who are represented by the Public Works Supervisory Employees (PWS) during Monday night’s council meeting.

Council also approved a separate resolution that authorizes the signing of a six-year agreement between the township and the group.

Both measures were approved with 5-0 votes.

The PWS isn’t a union, but it represented nine people when the previous contract expired in 2012, according to Chief Financial Officer Tom Merchel.

There was a lot of confusion about representation within the group, making it difficult for the township to negotiate with the group, according to Merchel. However, there are only two Moorestown employees still represented by the group, and the township has been able to reach a deal with the group.
