MOORESTOWN, NJ — Moorestown Council will meet four times next week as discussions on this year’s budget begin. Four special meetings have been scheduled for June 1-4, 5 p.m. each day, the township announced on Thursday.

During each meeting, council members will meet with department heads to discuss their needs ahead of the formulation and introduction of this year’s proposed budget. The schedule for what will be discussed when can be found below:

  • June 1: Police Budget
  • June 2: Department of Community Development
  • June 3: Recreation Department
  • June 4: Department of Public Works

No date has been set for budget introduction. Although the budget is typically approved by the beginning of the summer, the coronavirus pandemic has thrown administrations statewide a curveball. Gov. Phil Murphy delivered a statewide budget address in February, before the outbreak.

Another budget address will take place in late August, and officials expect it to impact state aid, thus impacting budgets for municipalities across the state.

Each meeting will be held by teleconference only. Members of the public can participate in the teleconference meeting just the same as if at an in-person meeting. The Mayor will open the floor for public participation in accordance with normal protocol.
