MOORESTOWN, NJ — Caryn Procaccini has been a business owner in Moorestown for 20 years, and the coronavirus pandemic inspired her to branch out.

Now, the owner of Caryn & Company on Main Street is ready to give Moorestown dogs the royal treatment. She just needs a little more help.

Procaccini has been set to open The Dog Spot at 123 East Main Street for about a year. The salon is ready to trim, shape and style your dog, but first it needs a manager.

“I started looking in February or March,” Procaccini said. “The space was ready about a year ago, but we’ve had very few applicants.”

Procaccini is looking for someone who has a lot of grooming experience and some business management experience.

She would like to have up to 10 people working in the studio, but she hasn’t been able to hire anyone because the manager would be training new groomers.

The manager would run the salon as part of an equity partnership, Procaccini said. They also need a creative sense. She’s been seeking candidates everywhere, and has found candidates who have grooming experience, but no management experience.

The idea to open a dog grooming business has always been in Procaccini’s mind, she said. She went to vocational school in Medford, and began styling people’s hair when she was in high school.

She is now the owner of her own business, but like many businesses, Caryn & Co. was closed during the pandemic. Procaccini used that time to dive deeper into what it would mean to expand her business.

“I have a hair salon, and I’m a dog person,” Procaccini said. “I thought it would be neat to get your dog done at the same time you’re getting your hair done.”

She decided to pursue it. Procaccini had purchased land next to her salon for additional parking, and it came with a vacant building. This is the building that will house her new idea.

But just as the pandemic gave birth to her idea, she believes many of the challenges people face because of it are preventing them from applying for the position. She also said what she is looking for is unique, and those who are experienced groomers may not have management experience.

The business has generated interest among residents, though.

“I’ve had so many people reaching out to me to ask if we’re open,” Procaccini said. “They’ll tell me what kind of dog they have, and I tell them I’ll let them know when we’re open.”

Anyone interested in applying for the position can contact Procaccini at thedogspotmoorestown@gmail.com or through The Dog Spot Facebook page.
