It is one of only 10 towns to earn that distinction this year.

Moorestown, NJ – Moorestown continues to be recognized for its sustainability efforts.
Moorestown has achieved Sustainable Jersey Silver Award certification for the second consecutive year. It is one of only 10 New Jersey municipalities that attained certification at the silver level in 2015, and one of only 33 townships have received the Silver Award since 2009.
Moorestown was honored at the Sustainable Jersey Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, Nov. 17, in Atlantic City. Township Manager Scott Carew and members of the Sustainable Moorestown Green Team accepted the award.

“In 2015, Town Council established Sustainable Moorestown as a permanent township committee by ordinance, endorsing their great work thus far, and reaffirming the township’s ongoing commitment to economic and environmental sustainability,” Moorestown Mayor Victoria Napolitano said. “This really is a great honor for Sustainable Moorestown and the township.”
To earn Silver Certification, Moorestown had to show it had completed a balance of the required sustainability actions.

It exceeded the minimum of 350 action points with a total of 405 points. In addition to reaching a minimum of 350 points, each community had to create a green team and select at least three out of 11 priority action options.
Moorestown completed the following six of the 11 priority actions:
1) energy tracking & management;
2) inventory & upgrade all buildings;
3) fleet inventory;
4) sustainable land use pledge;
5) natural resource inventory; and
6) prescription drug safety and disposal.
“Becoming Sustainable Jersey certified is a significant achievement, especially at the silver-level,” Sustainable Jersey Co-Director Randall Solomon said. “The 191 Sustainable Jersey certified towns demonstrate leadership and are a testament to how much we can accomplish toward the long-term goal of a sustainable New Jersey.”
Certified towns excelled in areas such as improving energy efficiency and health and wellness, reducing waste, sustaining local economies, protecting natural resources and advancing the arts.
“Collectively the 430 participating Sustainable Jersey towns are a powerful force in New Jersey,” Sustainable Jersey Co-Director Donna Drewes said.
“While it is a tremendous accomplishment to be one of only 10 municipalities in the state to obtain silver certification this year, it is not surprising knowing the talent and the passion the Sustainable Moorestown volunteers have,” Carew said. “The recognition that Moorestown is a state leader in sustainability is well deserved, but not the only take away from this announcement. Moorestown is and always has been an exceptional community due in large part to volunteers that selflessly give their time and effort to ensure that Moorestown always is a great place to live and work.”
“This achievement captures our residents commitment for ensuring a high quality of life continues for all residents of Moorestown,” Sustainable Moorestown Chairman Wolf Skacel said. “Only through the collective efforts of our leaders in Town Council, Government and in the community through dedicated volunteers are we able to accomplish the Silver level and ensure our community continues to thrive socially, economically and environmentally for years to come.”
“Moorestown was initially recognized at the Bronze Award level in 2013, then the Silver Award level in 2014 and now again at the Silver Award level in 2015,” Sustainable Moorestown Vice Chairman David Hess said. “Sustainable Jersey has created a program to recognize initiatives that will encourage townships to promote sustainable actions to protect environmental resources, promote economic strength and promote community involvement and diversity. Only 33 of the 430 NJ townships that participate in the Sustainable Jersey certification program have received the prestigious Silver Award and this award is a testament to the many active township committees and community organizations that support Moorestown programs.”
