Moorestown Friends Presents Award Winning 'The Drowsy Chaperone'

MOORESTOWN, NJ - Tony-award winning musical “The Drowsy Chaperone” is the fall musical at Moorestown Friends School this year. The show will run Nov. 16-18 at the Moorestown Friends School auditorium.

The lead players are senior Lizzie Cohen, of Moorestown, as “The Drowsy Chaperone;” sophomore Richard Chichester, of Mount Laurel, as Man in the Chair; junior Calvin Bell, of Pennsauken, as Robert Martin; and senior Mariana Goldlust, of Cherry Hill, as Janet Vandergraff.

From Music Theatre International: “Winner of five Tony Awards, including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperone is a loving send-up of the Jazz Age musical, featuring one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

“With the house lights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and a dizzy chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight.”

Show times are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. All tickets cost $12 and can be purchased at mfs.booktix.com. This performance is recommended for audiences eighth grade and up.
