Moorestown Friends School Students Earn National Academic Honors

Four students were recognized with two different honors, the school said on Tuesday.

Moorestown, NJ -- Four students at Moorestown Friends School have been recognized nationally for their academic achievements, the school announced on Tuesday.

Three seniors were recently named as Commended Students in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program.
The honored students included Jacob Desman, of Moorestown; Jessica Ferber, of Cherry Hill; and Rachael Whitley, of Mount Laurel.

They were among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
Each senior received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program.

“The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” an NMSC spokesperson said. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope that this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”

Ferber and senior Camille Aguilar, of Medford, were also named National Hispanic Scholars by the College Board in the 2017 National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP).

They scored in the top 2.5% among Hispanic and Latino test takers in the region for the 2015 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT).
