Moorestown Library Apologizes For Possibly Giving Out Counterfeit Eclipse Glasses
The library apologized 'profusely' for the error and discouraged people from using the glasses they distributed.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Library apologized Monday after realizing that they distributed eclipse glasses that may be counterfeit.
The library gave away glasses in the days leading up to the celestial event. But hours before the total solar eclipse reached the region, the library recognized the error and informed the public.

"They were purchased from Walmart.com," the library said on social media. "We have recently learned that though they are labeled as having been manufactured by Medical King, they may be counterfeit. We advise against using these and apologize profusely for the error."

Medical King's glasses are safe for eclipse viewing, according to the American Astronomical Society. But the AAS warns that eclipse glasses and viewers that some retail chains allow third parties to sell products on their websites, so the products may not be ISO-complaint.
Eclipse glasses and solar viewers sold in Walmart stores are safe, the AAS says.
