MOORESTOWN, NJ — Should Moorestown develop a historic district?

The township is considering the creation of a historic district that would potentially include commercial properties along Main Street and Chester Avenue. Officials will hold a workshop Wednesday to provide an overview and hear feedback from residents.

The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Town Hall. Property owners in the proposed district are strongly encouraged to attend.

Creating a historic district will help preserve Moorestown's historic sites, while encouraging adaptive re-uses and appropriate development within the district, officials said.

"The public's feedback will ultimately guide the township in the creation of a Historic Preservation Ordinance," the township says. "The ordinance will set forth the final Historic District's boundaries as well as establish a Historic Preservation Commission, which will ensure proposed projects in the Historic District maintain the building's historic integrity."
