Moorestown Soccer Club Begins Anniversary Season With Record Number of Players, Teams

Moorestown Soccer Club will have a record 33 teams and 500 players when the season begins this weekend.

The Moorestown Soccer Club begins its 35th season of competition this weekend with a record 33 teams and about 500 players.

Before the season gets started, the club holds its “Soccer 101” course for parents, grandparents and friends who are new to travel soccer. The session is Wednesday night, 7:30 p.m. on the third floor of Second Street Rec Center.

Part of this anniversary season will be Moorestown’s second annual Soctoberfest Gala on Oct. 17 at Laurel Creek.

Funds support both scholarships and keeping dues low. Anyone interested in getting involved in soccer or the Gala can get information at www.Moorestownsoccer.com.

Even before the World Cup, the sport was exploding in popularity, club officials said Tuesday night. The club consists of boys and girls ranging in age between seven and 15 years old. Some are novice and some are experienced players.

Moorestown fields teams in the South Jersey Soccer League, the South Jersey Girls League and MAPPS, and some of the teams are in the top flight of their respective league. Teams play 10 games this fall in addition to a spring schedule.

As part of its programming, the MSC provides coaching, technical training, conditioning, safety and parent education courses.
