Moorestown Students Rate Pies During Presidents' Day Pizza Crawl

Who rated in the eyes of five Moorestown Friends School students?

Moorestown, NJ -- With a plethora of pizza choices in a three-block stretch of Main Street in Moorestown, some of the area’s most important critics (and customers) set out on a mission. They went out to determine which pizza was best during lunch hour on a chilly Friday on Presidents’ Day Weekend.

Working their way in order from Carollo’s to La Vita, five local kids went from restaurant to restaurant, rating each according to the following critical pizza factors: cheese, sauce, crust, value and service.

At each location, they ordered three slices of plain cheese pizza, cut in half. No drinks were needed as the competition was BYOB—bring your own water bottle. Two parent chaperones were along to pay.

The pizza connoisseurs consisted of four children from Moorestown Friends School: 11-year-old middle school sixth graders Lily Buchdahl and Gianna Minghenelli; 7-year-old lower school second graders Ben Buchdahl and Sarah Capparelli; and Baker School first grader Paul Capparelli.

There was unanimous consensus that all the pizza providers were very good and that there is no such thing as too much pizza.

The kids noted the difference between the sit-down service at some pizzerias and the self-serve at others. They also agreed that the non-stop pizza delivery vehicles throughout Moorestown prove that pizza is truly a staple of our town.

“It was fun trying each place and comparing all the pizza slices at one time,” Lily Buchdahl said. “It is great to know that when I get older, I can walk over from MFS after school and get a slice.”

It was also noted that Healthy Garden serves good pizza too, but not by the slice.

The total cost of conducting the pizza crawl on your own is $6.50 plus tax and tip. Results may vary!
