Moorestown Theater Company Kicks Off Summer of Musicals This Week

There will be 5 musicals, beginning with "Getting to Know ... The Sound of Music."

Moorestown, NJ -- The Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) will present the Delaware Valley Community Theater Premiere of the classic family musical, “Disney’s The Little Mermaid,” plus four great children‟s musicals this summer, the theater company announced last week.

This includes the condensed versions of two of the world’s most popular musicals: (Getting To Know) The Sound Of Music and Les Miserables (School Edition).

The details of each musical are as follows:

Getting To Know…The Sound Of Music: This beloved family musical, written by the legendary Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II, and which won five Tony Awards AND five Academy Awards, features these favorite songs: “Maria,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” “Sixteen Going On Seventeen,” “The Lonely Goatherd,” “So Long Farewell,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Edelweiss,” and the title song. An 83-member student cast (with different “Black‟ and “Gold‟ casts of leads) will present the story of “Maria,‟ “Captain Von Trapp," the “Von Trapp Children," and the people of Austria.

Show dates and times are as follows: July 13 at 7 p.m.; July 14 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and July 15 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid: MTC will present the Delaware Valley Community Theater Premiere of the musical about the curious Mermaid who wants to live in the world “up there‟. A 52-member all-ages cast (with different “Black‟ and “Gold" casts of leads) will perform this musical with such well-known characters as “Ariel,‟ “Prince Eric,‟ “King Triton,‟ “Scuttle‟ (the seagull), “Flounder‟ (the guppy), “Sebastian‟ (the crab), and “Ursula‟ (the sea witch). The musical is directed by MTC’s Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan, and features such great songs as “Part Of Your World,” “She’s In Love,” “Poor Unfortunate Souls,” “Kiss The Girl,” and the Oscar-winning “Under The Sea” (played by a live 12-piece orchestra).

Show dates and times are as follows: July 21, 22, and 23 at 7 p.m.; July 24 at 2 p.m.; July 28 and 29 at 7 p.m.; and July 30 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $17.

Disney’s Alice In Wonderland, Jr.: MTC will present the family-friendly musical that features such beloved Disney characters as “The Cheshire Cat,‟ “The White Rabbit,‟ “Tweedle Dum,‟ “Tweedle Dee,‟ “The Mad Hatter," and “The Queen Of Hearts,‟ who are all met by the title character when she travels “down the rabbit hole."

Show dates and times are as follows: August 3 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; August 4 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and August 5 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Les Miserables, School Edition: MTC’s fifth all-teen cast will perform the condensed version of the world’s favorite musical with “Jean Valjean,‟ “Javert,‟ “Fantine,‟ “Cosette,‟ “Marius,‟ “Eponine,‟ and “Mr. and Mrs. Thenardier‟ singing great songs like “I Dreamed A Dream,” “Master Of The House,” “Do You Hear The People Sing?” “One Day More,” “On My Own,” and “Bring Him Home.” MTC Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan directs the “Black‟ and “Red" casts of leads.

Show dates and times are as follows: August 16, 17, and 18 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and August 19 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.

Broadway Kids II: MTC’s fifth all-pre-teen summer cast will present a new musical revue highlighting songs from favorite children’s musical, such as “Finding Neverland,” “Hairspray,” “School Of Rock,” “Tangled,” and “Wicked,” among others.

Show dates and times are as follows: August 24 at 7 p.m.; August 25 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and August 26 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tickets are $12.

All shows will take place at Hope Community Church, 235 West Main Street in Moorestown.
