Moorestown Theater Company's Next Show Has Something For Everyone

"Scenes and Songs III" opens Friday at Westfield Friends School in Cinnaminson.

Moorestown, NJ -- This show truly has something for everyone.

The Moorestown Theater Company’s production of “Scenes and Songs III” opens on Friday and runs for two weekends. Over the course of the five-show run, audiences will witness a compilation of short scenes from Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas, movie and TV.

“Some people just like straight plays, some people just like musicals, some people just like comedy,” said Moorestown Theater Company Board Vice Chair Tom McHale, who created the play in 2013. “If something’s not your style, three or four minutes later, there will be something else. The beauty is you hear people leaving saying, ‘My favorite part was XYZ,’ and another person will say, ‘Oh yeah, well my favorite part was ABC.”

This will be the third performance in four years.

“We were so excited when Tom McHale brought this idea to us in 2013,” Moorestown Theater Company Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan said. “This is Tom’s third version of 'Scenes and Songs,' and each one has gotten better. We truly hope all theater lovers in and around Moorestown will come out to see this unique theatrical event!”

Skits are pulled from a variety of sources, including “Monty Python,” “The Honeymooners,” “Mama Mia,” “White Christmas” and “Kiss Me Kate,” among others.

McHale got the idea from his time at St. Joseph Prep in Philadelphia. Each scene runs between 2 and 12 minutes, and the whole show runs just over two hours.

It’s a family affair for McHale, who performs in scenes with his oldest son, Brendan, and his wife, Pie Lady Cafe owner Christine McHale.

His sister, Kathy Williamson, and 22-year-old daughter Julia also perform as part of the all adult-cast. There are a total of 49 performers.

The show will run at Westfield Friends School, 2201 Riverton Road in Cinnaminson.

It opens on Friday, and runs Sept. 23, 24, Sept. 30 and Oct 1, 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Sept. 25, 2 p.m.

Tickets are $17, and reserved seating is available online at https://moorestowntheatercompany.secure.force.com/ticket/.

Tickets are also available at the door an hour before the show.
