Moorestown Theater Company's Summer Slate to Feature Pair of Firsts

Mary Poppins will fly and the Moorestown Theater Company will have a Delaware Valley premiere this summer.

The award-winning, non-profit theater company will present five musicals this summer, beginning with Disney’s The Lion King, Jr., which July 8-10.

The beloved family musical, written by Elton John and Tim Rice, features these favorite songs: “Circle Of Life”, “I Just Can’t Wait To Be King”, “Hakuna Matata”, and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight?”. An 80+- member cast will present the story of ‘Mufasa’, ‘Scar’, ‘Simba’, ‘Rafiki’, ‘Timon’, ‘Pumbaa’ and the other ‘Pride Rock’ animals.

Show dates and times are as follows: July 8 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; July 9 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and July 10 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 6 p.m.

The Moorestown Theater Company will be the first company to present this show in the Delaware Valley.

In Mary Poppins, the title character will fly on stage during the theater company’s production of Mary Poppins, marking the first time someone will fly on stage during a Moorestown Theater Company show.

The Moorestown Theater Company presents the Moorestown premiere of this classic musical about the mysterious Nanny who teaches a troubled family to appreciate the important things in life.

A 70+-member all-ages cast, directed by MTC’s Producing Artistic Director Mark Morgan, will perform this musical with such well-known songs as “Jolly Holiday”, “A Spoonful Of Sugar”, “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”, “Let’s Go Fly A Kite”, “Step In Time”, and the Oscar winning “Chim Chim Cher-ee” at William Allen Middle School, 801 North Stanwick Road in Moorestown.

It is double cast, with a ”black cast” and a “gold cast.” Check the theater company’s website for full cast information.

Show dates and times are as follows: July 16, 17 and 18 at 7 p.m.; July 19 at 2 p.m.; July 23 and 24 at 7 p.m.; and July 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The Moorestown Theater Company presents Seussical, Jr., which features such beloved ‘Dr. Seuss’ characters as ‘The Cat In The Hat’, ‘Horton The Elephant’, ‘Jojo’, ‘Yertle The Turtle’, ‘The Grinch’, and the residents of ‘Whoville.’ Show dates and times are as follows: July 29 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; July 30 at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.; and July 31 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Moorestown Theater Company’s fourth all-teen cast will present Legally Blonde, Jr., the musical version of the hilarious 2001 Hollywood movie. The teen cast will bring the story of ‘Elle Woods’ to life as she follows her dream to Harvard Law School, only to discover a new goal.

Show dates and times are as follows: Aug. 12 at 7 p.m.; Aug. 13 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and Aug. 14 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Moorestown Theater Company’s fourth all-pre-teen summer cast will present a new musical revue highlighting songs from favorite children’s musical, such as Annie, The Little Mermaid, Beauty And The Beast, among others.

Broadway Kids runs on the following dates and times: Aug, 19 at 7 p.m.; Aug. 20 at 10 a.m., 2 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and Aug. 21 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

All shows with the exception of Mary Poppins take place at Hope Community Church, 235 West Main Street in Moorestown.

Disney’s The Lion King, Jr., Seussical, Jr., Legally Blonde, Jr., and Broadway Kids will be presented at the end of the first, second, third, and fourth sessions, respectively, of Summer Stage ’15, MTC’s award-winning Musical Theater Camp, which is for children between 6 and 17, and which is held at Hope Community Church.
