MTC's 'Scenes And Songs 5' Offers Up A Taste Of Theater

The show consists of several scenes from multiple Broadway and TV shows and Hollywood movies. It opens Oct. 25.

MOORESTOWN, NJ — The Moorestown Theater Company (MTC) is giving anyone who has even a mild interest in performing the chance to get a small taste of the theater with its next show.

MTC’s fifth annual “Scenes and Songs” comes to the Upper Elementary School next week. The show is a series of scenes pulled from Broadway, Hollywood and TV (with two original scenes) that give performers a chance to get a taste of theater.

Adult performers (18 and up) can perform in just one scene or multiple scenes, and the audience will have the chance to be exposed to shows they may not have seen before.

MTC Vice Chairman Tom McHale directs the show, and brought the idea to the theater company five years ago. Eight years ago, he was asked to direct “Night of Scenes” at St. Joe Prep in Philadelphia, where he attended school. The show was specifically for kids who didn’t make the main cut, McHale said. It was a series of scenes from multiple shows that inspired “Scenes and Songs.”

“He suggested we do it with adults,” MTC Artistic Director Mark Morgan said. “I thought it would be a great way to get adults involved in theater.”
