November Fire at Columbus Farmers Market Remains a Mystery

The Nov. 18 fire destroyed a section of the farmers market.

Investigators still don’t know what caused an electrical short that led to a fire at the Columbus Farmers Market four months after a section of the market was destroyed, the Burlington County Times reports.

It is believed the short took place in Building 4, which was destroyed in the Nov. 18 fire, according to the report. Investigators are still testing several pieces of equipment.

No one was injured in the Tuesday afternoon fire, which lead to the market being closed for eight days. It was open in time for Thanksgiving, according to the report.

The market, which is open Thursday-Sunday, has been devastated by fire twice before, in 1968 and 1972, according to the farmers market’s website.

The market sits on 200 acres and includes indoor pavilion stores, an all-weather outdoor flea market, a self-storage facility and antique mall.
