Edward Gordon Keith, 97, passed away on June 18, surrounded by his family.

Edward Gordon Keith, 97, passed away on June 18, surrounded by his family. He was the son of Elizabeth Gordon Keith and Edgar Keith of Birmingham, Alabama.

An engineering graduate of Auburn University, Ed continued his postgraduate studies for several decades to stay abreast of his passionate interest in electronic communications.

During his 37-year career at RCA in Camden, New Jersey, he served in a variety of engineering positions ranging from radar development to designs for the first commercial television stations to digital defense satellite communications systems.

As a 60-year resident in Moorestown, New Jersey, he relished developing his golf game. Ed particularly enjoyed traveling to various clubs as a member of the Field Club traveling team or engaging in RCA sponsored tournaments. Later in retirement he cultivated his gardening skills and propagated cuttings of neighborhood plants establishing lovely gardens.

Ever independent, Ed thrived on challenge. As a result he proudly lived independently with timely support from kind neighbors and especially his grandchildren.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Martha Snavely, his former wife and life-long friend, Virginia Hewitt Keith, and daughter, Mary K. Schwartz.

Surviving are son, Edward Gordon Keith, Jr. (Joan) of Mathews, Virginia, daughter, Joanne K. Jaffey of Penfield, New York,; grandchildren, Cynthia van Geer (Erik), David Schwartz (Allison), Michael Schwartz of Greensboro , and Craig Jaffey of Penfield great-grandchildren; Benjamin Schwartz, Aidan Schwartz Colby Schwartz and Addie van Geer all of Greensboro.

A memorial service celebrating Ed’s life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, July 11 at the College Park Baptist Church, 1601 Walker Avenue, Greensboro, NC 27403-2318.

In lieu of flowers Ed would prefer memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice or to the College Park Baptist Church.
