Officer Recovering After Man Stabs Him In Burlington County: Police

Police charged a man with aggravated assault for causing serious injury to an officer on duty. He has since been released from custody.

PEMBERTON, NJ — Police say an officer is recovering after a man stabbed him in the line of duty in late December in Pemberton Township.

Pemberton Police released information about the Jan. 26 incident on Friday, and said the man accused of causing serious injury to the officer was released from custody.

According to police, the officer was working plain-clothes detail in Browns Mills when a suspect, identified as Alfred Delsole, stabbed him. The officer had a serious bodily injury, police said. He has since been released from the hospital.

"The incident did not involve a shooting as reported on social media," police said.

The stabbing took place in the area of Juliustown Road and Busansky Lane at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 26.

Officials charged Delsole, 48, with second-degree aggravated assault, two counts of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and two counts of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Pemberton Police said Delsole, of Browns Mills, was released from custody Feb. 3 following a detention hearing, though the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office requested he remain in jail.
